The Hogar Cuna San Cristóbal, a temporary home for minors removed due to abuse or neglect, has raised over $108,000 through its alliance with the non-profit organization Ultra Pasos and NotiCentro. According to Shakira Maldonado, the home’s auxiliary director, the funds will provide new opportunities for the children. The home has been operating for 34 years and invests $1,200,000 annually to function 24/7.
Maldonado highlighted that 2025 has been the year with the most cases of child abuse. The funds raised will benefit the Hogar Cuna San Cristóbal, and donations can be made through ATH Móvil. The $108,000 came from a bicycle event ($44,000), Ultra Mujeres ($39,012), Ultra Nado ($8,961) and a treadmill event ($17,000).
Corrected October 4: an earlier version said “a 300-mile bike ride around the island raised $21,000”, a figure from another story on the outlet’s page; the home’s bicycle event raised $44,000, part of the $108,000.
