Over 100 volunteers from towns including San Sebastián, Moca, Lares, Aguada, Isabela, and San Juan participated in the 'Cuidando a Puerto Rico desde la montaña hasta el arrecife' event, organized by Kia Puerto Rico and Scuba Dogs Society, to collect waste at the Guajataca reservoir. Led by Captain Shadai Lorenzo of Scuba Dogs Society, the group collected over 3,000 pounds of waste and cleaned approximately 3.4 kilometers of road.
The event aimed to promote the importance of conserving freshwater ecosystems and protecting rivers and reservoirs. Gabriel Pecunia Malavé, director of programs at Scuba Dogs Society, emphasized the connection between mountain and coastal ecosystems, while Abiezer Rodríguez, commercial director at Kia, highlighted the need to protect aquatic systems, as much of the waste that reaches the coast originates from rivers and causes damage to the ecosystem.
