At a glance

  • The Secretary of Public Affairs, Jean Peña Payano, confirmed that Suzanne Roig Fuertes maintains the trust of Governor Jenniffer González.
  • Peña Payano emphasized that the governor would notify if a change were to be made in the Department of the Family’s leadership.
  • The officials will respect the investigations and wait for the entities with expertise to handle the matter.

Why this matters: The confirmation of Roig Fuertes’ continued role may impact the Department of the Family’s initiatives and services for local households and communities.

La Fortaleza’s Public Affairs secretary, Jean Peña Payano, insisted that Suzanne Roig Fuertes, secretary of the Family Department, still has Gov. Jenniffer González’s confidence. He spoke at the En Récord press conference in response to unofficial information that a replacement is being sought for her. Peña Payano said rumors on social media are one thing and official communication another, and that the governor has not spoken on the matter.

He noted he himself has been 'fired about ten times’ in rumors. He said everyone is under constant evaluation, that this is the governor’s prerogative, and that if she decides someone should no longer be on her team, she would announce it. He added that officials accept that decision when they accept a position.

Peña Payano also said it is not for a La Fortaleza official to judge the truth of the versions given by Roig Fuertes, the dismissed director of the Socioeconomic Development Administration (ADSEF), Blanca Medina Díaz, or Energy czar Josué Colón Ortiz. 'We are going to respect the investigations and the entities with the expertise. We cannot be judge and party,' he said, adding that La Fortaleza will not give evidentiary value to the allegations or the sworn statements from both sides and will wait for the expert entities to handle them.
