Family Department Secretary Suzanne Roig Fuertes has requested additional security measures for her appearance at the Capitol on Wednesday, due to the possibility of encountering Blanca Medina Díaz, the former administrator of the Socioeconomic Development Administration of the Family (ADSEF). Roig Fuertes sent a two-page letter to Capitol Superintendent Jazmín Y. Orengo Pacheco, asking for the intervention of the Internal Security Bureau of the Capitol District to coordinate preventive measures during two public hearings she will attend.
The request comes as a preventive measure, citing information and background related to expressions or behavior perceived as threatening towards Roig Fuertes by Medina Díaz. The controversy surrounding Medina Díaz’s departure from ADSEF and her allegations of pressure related to a $38 million contract with federal funds from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program continues.
Roig Fuertes denied Medina Díaz’s allegations and stated that the former official allegedly threatened to harm her, although no complaint was filed with the police. Roig Fuertes will appear before the House of Representatives’ Health Committee at 10:00 AM and later before the Senate’s Family, Women, Elderly, and Functional Diversity Population Committee at 1:00 PM.
