Manuel Natal and Eva Prados of the Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana (MVC) filed requests for information with the Puerto Rico Senate and the San Juan municipality about the billing of a law firm associated with Anthony Maceira, who holds contracts worth more than $1.2 million this four-year term. According to Natal Albelo, the firm, MZLS LLC, has generated $2.8 million in public contracts in under six years, including with Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz and San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero.

Attorney Eva Prados Rodríguez said the MVC acted after the Senate president refused to investigate conflicts of interest and possible corrupt acts by his closest allies. The group requested copies of the invoices and work reports the firm submitted to the Senate, the San Juan municipality and Genera PR. Prados said Maceira has a $30,000-a-month contract with the Senate, and that Rivera Schatz publicly ruled out investigating his contractor’s ties to the multimillion-dollar Power Expectations fraud.

Attorney Osvaldo Carlo identified Maceira as a lobbyist for one of the companies competing for a contract that exceeded $5.89 billion. Prados also recalled Maceira’s prominent role in the summer of 2019 as part of then-Governor Ricardo Rosselló’s team.
