The Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics warned citizens and the commercial sector about suspicious calls from people claiming to be representatives of the entity to conduct supposed surveys. According to a press release by Idania Rodríguez Ayuso, the Institute’s deputy director, the entity does not communicate with anyone to conduct unexpected telephone surveys. Rodríguez Ayuso stated that in cases where a telephone interview has been conducted, there has been a prior record and the participant has given written consent to receive the call.
The Institute reported that in recent days, several individuals and businesses have received numerous suspicious calls. Rodríguez Ayuso advised citizens not to provide personal, financial, or banking information to anyone who calls without prior agreement or communication and claims to represent the Institute. The Institute urged those who receive suspicious calls not to disclose information, to note the caller’s number, and to report the incident.
Citizens can verify communications by writing to preguntas@estadisticas.pr or visiting the official portal at estadisticas.pr.gov. Rodríguez Ayuso warned that no one can use the Institute’s name, official seal, or representation without authorization and demanded the immediate cessation of these practices. The Institute reserves the right to refer the facts to the corresponding authorities and take legal action.
