Why this matters: For the Puerto Rican community, Lari Poppins’ recognition highlights the island’s strong cultural ties with the Dominican Republic and the importance of immigrant contributions to local society.

Larissa Dones, known as Lari Poppins, was recognized as a 'Young Influential of the Dominican Community in Puerto Rico' by Puerto Rico’s Department of State on Friday. Dones expressed her emotion and pride, highlighting her Dominican roots and the influence of her mother and grandmother, who immigrated to Puerto Rico with big dreams. She dedicated the recognition to them and to her family, the Rosario Vargas of Bonao.

Dones also used the occasion to emphasize the importance of the immigrant community and express solidarity with families seeking new opportunities in Puerto Rico. She urged her followers to reflect on the difficulties faced by these communities and recognize their right to live with dignity. Dones received the Juan Pablo Duarte 2026 medal for her achievement.
