Amid recent government corruption cases under investigation by the Senate and the Independent Special Prosecutor Panel (FEI), NotiUno interviewed Cándida Selles, a former independent special prosecutor who spent 15 years as a Justice Department prosecutor. Selles reacted to recent statements by Ygrí Rivera, president of the FEI Panel, that six prosecutors are currently in charge of investigating the corruption schemes.
Selles said that, if she were in a position to do so, she would push alternatives to strengthen the Panel’s staff by adding more prosecutors, so the volume of cases the FEI handles can be addressed more effectively. Regarding the corruption cases the Senate is investigating, Selles said that in her judgment they are not highly complex.
She added that the cases continue to have the same elements as before, with the difference that government employees are now being pressured in order to achieve certain objectives.
