The House of Representatives unanimously approved a measure on Tuesday to prohibit contracts for professional services with individuals who have admitted to corruption, regardless of whether they were prosecuted or convicted. The measure, which amends Law 237-2004, creates a confidential registry of individuals who have admitted to corruption under immunity agreements. Representative Ramón Torres Cruz, the bill’s author, said the goal is to prevent those who have engaged in corruption from contracting with the government again.
The measure will now proceed to the Senate for consideration. Additionally, the House approved six other legislations, including one that extends the notification period for overdue maintenance fees in gated communities from 15 to 30 days. Representative Luis Pérez Ortiz clarified that the legislation aims to give citizens more time to rectify their debt, not to eliminate or forgive debts.
