In Puerto Rico, a farewell ceremony for legendary boxer Wilfredo 'Bazooka' Gomez will take place on October 15 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan. Family members and renowned sports figures from the country are expected to attend. Gomez, a 69-year-old Puerto Rican boxer, passed away last Saturday at around 9:00 PM due to respiratory complications.

He won his first championship in 1977 by defeating Korean boxer Dong Kyun Yum via K.O. in a fight held in Puerto Rico. Gomez had a professional record of 44-3-1 with 42 K.O.s and won titles in three divisions: super bantamweight, featherweight, and super featherweight. During his career, he faced notable boxers such as Juan Laporte, Lupe Pintor, and Rocky Lockridge, including a memorable fight against Carlos Zarate, which was part of the historic rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Governor Jenniffer González declared three days of mourning and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in all public facilities from Wednesday to Friday, October 16.
