In Puerto Rico, the Secretary of the Department of Family, Suzanne Roig, requested an extension of time to respond to a request for information from Coccoloba AgroEnvironmental LLC, which seeks evidence of an alleged proposal submitted and evaluated by the company. The request was made after Coccoloba formally asked the Department of Family for documents and communications related to the proposal, including who submitted it, who it was addressed to, when it was received, and what documents were used to evaluate it.
The company had originally given the department five calendar days to deliver the information. Coccoloba’s legal representative, Nadja Cardona Portalatín, confirmed that the company agreed to grant the additional time requested by Roig. The request comes amid questions about the evaluation and awarding of proposals related to a $38 million contract that has generated controversy in the Department of Family.
During a recent public hearing in the Senate, Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz questioned Roig about whether two companies had submitted proposals for the contract, and Roig responded that, to her understanding, the companies had submitted documentation that she considered as proposals.
