On World Food Day, Telemundo Puerto Rico dedicated spaces across its programming to the island’s food crisis through 'Sanando Juntos,' an initiative it describes as born of its commitment to building a better country. The message argues that food insecurity often goes unnoticed: many affected families work and make sacrifices yet still lack resources for adequate food, whether a mother reducing her portions so her children can eat, an older adult choosing between buying medicine or food, or a family unable to guarantee healthy meals.

It adds that a child arriving hungry at school does not start the day on equal footing with classmates, affecting health, concentration and ability to learn. The author recounts a conversation with a successful businessman who said poverty does not exist in Puerto Rico and that anyone poor is poor by choice, calling that living in a bubble.

The initiative says it does not claim to have all the answers but is convinced the first step is recognizing the problem and stop looking away, and that healing Puerto Rico begins by recognizing its wounds, a responsibility shared by everyone regardless of economic status.
