Why this matters: For Puerto Rico’s entrepreneurs and spirits industry, the gold medal won by Tres Santos Mezcal represents a significant recognition of the island’s growing presence in the international market.

In Puerto Rico, a brand of mezcal created by Puerto Rican entrepreneurs has won a gold medal at the 2026 New York World Spirits Competition. Tres Santos Ensamble, crafted in Oaxaca, Mexico, was recognized for its quality in the international spirits industry. Paul González, co-founder of Tres Santos Mezcal and Agave Imports LLC, said the gold medal is a source of pride and highlights the work of master mezcaleros who preserve traditional techniques.

The brand has also received a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2026 and is expanding its commercial distribution, including in over 100 Chedraui supermarket branches in Mexico. Tres Santos is also promoting local cocktail talent in Puerto Rico through the Tres Santos Cocktail Competition, where ten semifinalists will present their creations on social media, and the public will vote to select six finalists to compete during the Puerto Rico Cocktail Week from November 8 to 14.
