Why this matters: For every fan at the Coliseo Guillermo Angulo game, $1 per ticket goes to Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, a Carolina-area shelter serving women survivors of domestic violence.

The Gigantes de Carolina of the women’s National Superior Basketball league (BSNF) will dedicate their game on Monday, October 19, to raising awareness about violence against women and supporting survivors of domestic violence through an initiative benefiting Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos. Under the slogan "Por ellas, ¡todas! Rompamos el ciclo" (For them, all of us!

Let’s break the cycle), the matchup against Las Criollas de Caguas will be played at 8:00 PM at the Coliseo Guillermo Angulo in Carolina. One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the organization, which provides support and protection to women survivors of domestic violence. Claudia Ramos Zorrilla, the team’s owner and general manager, said that combating violence against women requires solidarity, commitment and collective action, and noted that sport can serve as a tool to promote respect and a life free of violence.

The initiative aims to bring the community together around preventing domestic violence while fans support the Carolina team during the BSNF season.
