For the second consecutive year, San Juan’s Municipal Hospital has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high-performing institution in the care of patients with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, in the 2026-2027 edition of Best Hospitals in the Procedures and Conditions category. The recognition was based on indicators including patient survival rates, recovery at home, the volume of patients treated and specialized hospital accreditation in cancer.
San Juan Mayor Miguel A. Romero Lugo praised the hospital’s health professionals, saying the distinction is a source of pride for the capital and a tribute to the staff who hold patients’ health in their hands every day, and that the city has continued strengthening its health system by investing in resources. For the 2026-2027 edition, U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions, and only one third of the institutions evaluated earned any recognition.
Luis Class, director of the San Juan Municipal Health System, said the distinction reflects clinical outcomes and quality of care, noting the hospital’s multidisciplinary teams follow rigorous protocols with decisions centered on each patient’s needs. The publication’s methodology also weighs risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and nursing care, drawing on more than 800 million patient care records.
