The eleventh edition of “Camina por tu Héroe,” the fundraising walk of the De Frente al Alzheimer Foundation, drew hundreds of people to the José “Buga” Abreu Coliseum in Isabela and raised $272,700 for Alzheimer’s patients and their families. It was the third consecutive year that Isabela hosted the event, which combines education, music and solidarity for families caring for people with Alzheimer’s.
The proceeds will fund the foundation’s financial assistance program, which supports families living in Puerto Rico with expenses related to caring for Alzheimer’s patients. The day included educational talks about the condition, plus musical performances by BLB and Decimanía. Víctor Manuelle, the foundation’s godfather, said in written statements that after eleven editions the walk still moves him, that the event honors caregivers who dedicate their time to their loved ones, and that the foundation will keep working to give them the support they need.
People interested in requesting financial assistance have until October 31 to apply at www.defrentepr.com; more information is available at ayuda@defrentepr.com or by mail at the foundation’s San Juan address. Donations can be made through ATH Móvil or PayPal.
