Puerto Rican writer, creative director and executive producer Carlos Collazo Vázquez has released his first novel, La Tribu del Huracán, published under the La Mesa Editorial imprint. The book is available in print at major Puerto Rico bookstores and on Amazon, and in digital format exclusively on Amazon. To mark the release, Collazo Vázquez will hold a book presentation on Monday, October 26 at 7:00 PM at Casa Norberto in Plaza Las Américas.
The novel follows a group of friends from a humble neighborhood on Puerto Rico’s west coast over twenty days in September, when an unexplainable event changes their lives. As the mystery grows, an unusual hurricane with a trajectory no meteorologist can explain heads toward the island, and the line between the real and the supernatural thins.
The story interweaves with the investigation of a federal agent. It blends Caribbean magical realism with themes including Puerto Rican identity, the collective memory of Hurricane María, and friendship in adversity. "I wanted this story to have a Puerto Rican soul," Collazo Vázquez said.
He was born in Puerto Rico, studied Public Communication at the University of Puerto Rico and Law at the Universidad Interamericana, and has led creative teams producing content for audiences in the United States, Puerto Rico and Latin America.
