Puerto Rico Representative Jorge 'Georgie' Navarro said he has gone a month without drinking alcohol, a stretch he attributes to recovering from knee surgery and taking antibiotics rather than to any lack of access. In an interview with NotiUno 630, Navarro said, 'I have been behaving for a month, a month without giving myself anything, without going out anywhere,' adding that he is on antibiotics and 'can live without that.'
The remarks come as the Carraízo reservoir reached the Spilling band this month, a comparison the story plays on wordlessly. It is not the first time alcohol has figured in controversies involving Navarro: in 2019 he was involved in an altercation with security staff at a business in the Placita de Santurce, apparently in a state of inebriation, which prompted an ethics complaint.
In October 2022 he was in another confrontation in a parking lot after leaving a Maná concert, though he denied being drunk; on that occasion he acknowledged having received treatment related to alcohol consumption but rejected having problems with drinking. On October 5, Navarro had already revealed he had gone three weeks without alcohol and was considering extending that period.
The story notes Carraízo remains at safe levels while Navarro stays dry and focuses on his recovery.
