Why this matters: The episode is filmed at Nabo Gastrobar in Guaynabo and features a Puerto Rican actress whose two short films are also in festival selection locally and in Cannes.

Actress, producer and content creator Gabriela Short guides the latest episode of La Barra Viajera, a travel series by Vision News Media in collaboration with A&A Tours, through Peru while preparing the pisco sour, the country’s emblematic cocktail. The episode was recorded at Nabo Gastrobar in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Short says Peru is much more than Lima and Machu Picchu.

In Lima she highlights top restaurants such as Maido and Central alongside roadside stops serving fresh corn with cheese, and recalls trying cuy, a guinea pig dish she says tastes like lechón. She recommends Paracas, a desert-like natural reserve with reddish sand on the Pacific, the Ballestas Islands with seals and rock formations, and a small-plane flight to see the Nazca Lines.

Further south she describes Lake Titicaca and the Uros Islands, floating islands locals build from totora reeds. Near Cusco she points to the Sacred Valley and the Salineras de Maras salt pools, where artisanal chocolate is made. The pisco sour combines pisco, lime, simple syrup and egg white, shaken twice, served chilled without ice, with Angostura bitters on top, and vegan versions swapping out the egg white.

Short also shared that she debuts as executive producer on two short films, currently selected in festivals in Puerto Rico and Cannes.
