Thieves stole equipment intended for elderly adults and sick people from the Abraham Lincoln school in Corozal, and those responsible also destroyed the items they left behind. According to the report, the stolen goods included wheelchairs, portable toilets and even gel mattresses that were to be donated to benefit people in need. The individuals responsible remain under search by the authorities.
Members of the solidarity initiative described the situation as lamentable and outrageous. "Outrageous. I can watch the news and see that it’s frustrating, but when it happens to you, the game is different. We joined together to raise our voice and benefit those who are turned away. People organized to do something just. It hurts...", said Joey Ocasio, of Fundaciones Unidas.
The theft targeted items meant for the island’s most vulnerable, and the suspects had not been identified or caught as of the report.
