Universidad Albizu celebrated its 57th commencement at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, where 679 graduates from the San Juan campus and the Mayagüez University Center completed their academic preparation in disciplines tied to health, wellness and behavioral sciences, including Psychology, Speech-Language Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology. The ceremony was part of the institution’s 60th anniversary commemoration.
As part of that milestone, the university awarded an honorary Doctorate in Behavioral Sciences to Puerto Rican communicator, writer and artist Silverio Pérez Figueroa, recognizing his career and contributions to Puerto Rican society. University president Dr. Nelson E. Soto said the new generation of graduates reaffirms the institution’s founding commitment to forming professionals with academic excellence, human sensitivity and a vocation of service, particularly when Puerto Rico needs professionals prepared to respond to social and health challenges.
The university also offers graduate certificates in Forensic Psychology and Autism Spectrum Disorder, plus a Graduate Certificate in Human-Animal Interaction and Animal-Assisted Interventions. Albizu recently received reaccreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education for the maximum period of eight years with eleven recognitions. Its clinics at the San Juan and Mayagüez campuses serve more than 3,500 patients annually, and its Center for Trauma, Stress and Health provides scientific consulting and training curricula in those areas.
