Puerto Rico Telecommunications Bureau Calls on Industry to Help Modernize Regulations

The president of the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Bureau (NET), Osvaldo Soto García, called on the industry to collaborate in modernizing the regulations that govern telecommunications services on the island, citing technological advances and new infrastructure needs. He made the announcement during the ICT Summit Puerto Rico 2026, where he emphasized the importance of updating rules covering technologies such as fiber optics, data centers and smart networks.

Soto García explained that part of the current regulations dates from the era of traditional telephone service and copper wiring, so the Bureau has begun a consultation process to streamline procedures and set standards consistent with new technologies. As part of that effort, the agency is reviewing Regulation No. 7393, which concerns the endorsement of infrastructure plans and easements for telecommunications and cable television installations.

The Bureau invited industry professionals, organizations and citizens to submit their recommendations in writing to net7393@jrsp.pr.gov.
