Why this matters: Cruz says he carries Puerto Rican musical identity to audiences across the 65 countries he has visited in his 40-year career.

Puerto Rican pianist, director and musical producer Adlan Cruz received his second honorary Doctor Honoris Causa degree, conferred by the Universidad Alva Edison of Puebla, Mexico, at a ceremony held on October 28 in the historic city of Cusco, Peru. The recognition was granted through Resolution No. 19-26, approved unanimously by the institution’s governing council, in recognition of his outstanding professional performance, institutional leadership, and contribution to promoting educational excellence in Ibero-America.

It also cites his professionalism, directing ability and contributions to improving human quality. Cruz said Peru became the 65th country he has visited over his 40-year career. He also quoted Proverbs 18:16, saying he feels deeply grateful for the privilege of serving through his talents.

As part of the visit, on October 29 Cruz participated in an international collegiation ceremony, joining the Colegio Oficial Internacional de Doctores, a step he described as a new stage in his commitment to professional excellence, knowledge exchange and developing future generations. Cruz, who has performed on international stages for four decades and has shared his talent with audiences of diverse cultures while carrying Puerto Rican musical identity with him, said the honors represent opportunities to continue inspiring and opening paths for new generations of artists, and that he will continue developing projects that integrate music, professional excellence, education and service.
