The Architects and Landscape Architects Association of Puerto Rico (CAAPPR) announced that it recently took part in signing an agreement called the 'Mendoza Declaration', aimed at confronting environmental challenges from within the profession. The declaration reaffirms the commitment of the Panamerican Federation of Associations of Architects (FPAA), which represents the national architecture associations of North, Central and South America, to face environmental challenges and advance toward more resilient territories.
CAAPPR president Angueira said the initiative aligns with the Manifesto of Panamerican Architecture toward the goals of COPR30, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. The declaration lays out five strategic visions: developing sustainable housing and habitat; planning territory around climate adaptation and resilience; valuing heritage, identity and culture; innovating, training and strengthening professional practice; and promoting an ecological and energy transition with climate justice.
Angueira said the FPAA has urgently called on members to tighten environmental preservation rules, encourage investment in green infrastructure and work jointly with professional associations to build a livable future for the Americas.
