At a glance

  • Treasury collected $10.81 billion in the first nine months of the year, up $738.9 million or 7.3% from the same period last year
  • Corporate and partnership receipts rose 19.1% between January and September to $3.07 billion, while individual payments rose 3.0% to $2.4 billion
  • Excise collections fell 4.3%, driven by alcoholic beverages (-6.6%) and cars (-8.5%)

Why this matters: Stronger corporate withholding through September pads the island government’s general revenues, while falling alcohol and car excise taxes signal softer consumption at the register.

Puerto Rico’s Treasury Department (Hacienda) collected $10.81 billion in the first nine months of the year, which is $738.9 million more than in the same period last year, a 7.3% increase, according to agency data. Income tax collections are growing, driven by corporations and partnerships, which rose 19.1% between January and September to $3.07 billion.

Income tax withheld from non-residents, which includes royalty payments and payments from the external sector, increased 8.1%. Individuals paid $2.4 billion, 3.0% more. Excise tax collections, meanwhile, decreased 4.3%, mainly because of lower collections on alcoholic beverages (down 6.6%) and cars (down 8.5%).

Collections had increased 2.0% in fiscal year 2026 and had fallen 0.9% in calendar year 2025, the first decline since 2020, the pandemic year.
