Political analyst Luis Dávila Colón said on Thursday, on his NotiUno 630 program En la Mirilla, that Puerto Rico’s government is in a "total collapse of governability" because of unpaid money owed to public school teachers, school transporters and firefighters. He called it "total ineptitude," arguing the government cannot provide energy, decent and regular water, pay school bus service, pay the carrera magisterial (teachers’ career-ladder salary step), or pay firefighters.
On the teachers’ march for a dignified retirement, he said transporters and firefighters joined the protest. About the career payment, he said it has been promised in June, July, August, September and October and still has not appeared; if there is no money for the 90 million dollars it costs, it should not be promised in June.
He explained that school transporters began carrying students in August, and that five days into November they still have not been paid for August, September or October. He said the government blames the delays on its new computer system and responded: cut the checks, or go back to the old way. He also said there were no classes, though the government says schools are open.
