Injury Knocks Puerto Rico’s Luis Rosado Victoriano Out of 3x3 Basketball at Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics

Why this matters: Puerto Rico’s Youth Olympics 3x3 squad will play a man short in Dakar after its replacement request was denied, affecting the team’s quarterfinal push in Group C against Latvia and Singapore.

The Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) reported on Thursday that Luis Rosado Victoriano is out of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games because of an injury, so the Puerto Rico men’s 3x3 basketball team will compete with only three players. COPUR and the Puerto Rico Basketball Federation requested an exceptional authorization to replace the injured athlete, but the request was denied because the deadline to process replacements had expired on October 31, before the injury occurred.

Fernando Camareno, Johamil Correa Betancourt and Jorge Echeandía Febus will make up the Puerto Rican team, which begins play in the tournament on Saturday, November 7. Puerto Rico will face Latvia and Singapore in Group C, aiming to qualify for the competition’s quarterfinals. COPUR and the Basketball Federation expressed their support for Rosado Victoriano, recognized his commitment while preparing to represent Puerto Rico, and wished him a speedy recovery.
