Agents of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau took part on Thursday morning in a basic sign language workshop to continue their training on interactions with the deaf community and people with functional diversity. The event was coordinated by the facilitator of the Citizen Interaction Committee of the San Juan Area. The initiative arose as part of an informal alliance through the Community Police platform to keep promoting staff preparation and strengthening the tools to provide adequate and accessible service to all sectors of the community.
Collaborating in the activity were Yaret Piñero, president of Advancement in Sign Language Education & Services (ASLES); Ricardo Pérez, of the Office of the Advocate for Persons with Disabilities (Defensoría de las Personas con Impedimentos); and a lawyer from the Courts Administration. Correctional officers were also invited to benefit from the orientation.
