Víctor Ordóñez, son of Spanish importer and producer Jorge Ordóñez and a representative of Jorge Ordóñez Selections, visited Puerto Rico for the first time and led a master class presenting about fourteen labels from the family portfolio. The visit, coordinated by Méndez & Co., traced Spanish regions, native varieties and historic vineyards, showing how origin and winemaking methods express themselves in each wine.
The lineup included wines from Bodegas Avancia, Bodegas Breca, Bodegas La Caña, Bodegas Vatán and Jorge Ordóñez Málaga, part of his father’s business. Jorge Ordóñez, born in Málaga, has promoted Spanish wines in the United States market since 1987. Víctor, representing the family business’s new generation, presented varieties including Godello, Albariño, Garnacha, Tinta de Toro, Verdejo and Moscatel de Alejandría.
Highlights included Nisia and Nisia Las Suertes from Rueda’s Verdejo, La Caña and La Caña Navia from Rías Baixas, Avancia Godello from Valdeorras, the dry Botani Old Vines Moscatel from the Axarquía, Breca El Nacido Garnacha from Calatayud, and Tritón and Vatán from Toro, made with Tinta de Toro, the local name for Tempranillo. Méndez & Co. organized the class to bring Spanish wine closer to Puerto Rico’s gastronomic public.
