The president executive of the Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA), Luis González Delgado, announced on Friday that repair work on a 48-inch pipe in Bayamón has been completed. The pipe, which is part of the Superacueducto system, was damaged on Monday, leaving thousands of customers without water service.
the AAA is taking a cautious approach to refilling the system to avoid any further issues or ruptures
Although the repair work is finished, González Delgado estimated that the service will not be fully restored until Sunday, due to the need for the concrete used in the repair to set. Approximately 20,000 customers in Guaynabo and 27,000 in the eastern region, including Caguas, Gurabo, and Juncos, are affected.
The AAA began pouring concrete to reinforce and seal the repaired joint on Thursday, and the material needs time to dry before the system can be gradually reopened. González Delgado stated that the AAA is taking a cautious approach to refilling the system to avoid any further issues or ruptures.
