The Puerto Rico Senate approved a resolution to investigate Secretary of State Francisco Domenech, following allegations made by former Economic Development and Commerce Secretary Sebastián Negrón Reichard. The investigation will be led by the Commission on Innovation, Reform, and Appointments, chaired by Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz. Rivera Schatz stated that the commission will first review the allegations and then determine the course of the investigation, which may include public or executive hearings and requests for information.
The resolution also leaves open the possibility of expanding the investigation to other figures, including Justice Secretary Lourdes Gómez. The investigation aims to identify any law violations. Domenech's office declined to comment on the approval of the resolution.
The Senate resolution, numbered 548, was approved without debate, despite an attempt by Senator Roxanna Soto Aguilú to speak against the measure.
