Dolores Esperanza, a dog rescued in Ponce in 2014 after suffering severe burns, has passed away at the age of 13 due to complications from cancer. She had become a symbol of hope, love, and the fight against animal abuse in Puerto Rico. A farewell ceremony, 'El Último Adiós a Dolores', was held at the Funeraria Jackie Oliver in Ponce, where family, volunteers, and citizens could pay their respects.
The event also included a food drive for dogs and cats, with donations to be delivered to independent rescuers in Ponce. Arleen Muñiz, president of Colitas Sonrientes, described Dolores' passing as sudden, despite appearing stable the day before. Muñiz remembered Dolores as a 'companion of pure sweetness', 'full of joy and vitality', and 'resilient in the face of adversity'.
Dolores' legacy will be honored, and her memory will continue to inspire the fight against animal abuse.
