Sabana Grande Remains Undefeated in Carnival of Champions

The Petateros de Sabana Grande, Gigantes de Carolina, Azucareros de Yabucoa, and Pescadores del Plata de Comerío won in the first round of the 2026 Carnival of Champions of the Liga de Béisbol Superior Doble A. Sabana Grande remains the only undefeated team with a record of 8-0 and a streak of nine consecutive wins. In the Hermanos Miura stadium, pitchers Walter Hernández and Miguel Ausúa led the Petateros to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Libertadores de Hormigueros. Melvin Collazo drove in the two runs of the game. Ausúa earned the win with 4.1 innings of relief, allowing just three hits and striking out two batters.

The Gigantes de Carolina defeated the defending champion Mulos de Juncos 7-1, with Héctor Quiñones pitching seven innings and striking out five. The Azucareros de Yabucoa beat the Maratonistas de Coamo 4-1, with Marcos Santa and Joan Román combining for a strong relief performance. The Pescadores del Plata de Comerío won 7-6 against the Tigres de Hatillo, thanks to a game-winning hit by Kevin Bermúdez.
