A 38-year-old woman, Donett M. Garth Durán, was fatally shot in the early hours of Saturday in the Monte Verde sector of Canóvanas. According to Lieutenant José Padín, director of the Homicidios division in Carolina, the victim may have been an innocent bystander in a shootout. The police found over 86 shell casings of different calibers at the scene, but the woman was only hit by one bullet.

The incident occurred at 12:08 a.m. on Calle 17 in the San Isidro neighborhood. The authorities were alerted by a 911 call. Padín stated that the police theory is that the shots may have been intended for someone else, and the investigation is ongoing. The victim was found alone next to a black Hyundai Kona with open front doors.
