The Puerto Rico Basketball Federation (FBPUR) announced that point guard José Alvarado will be welcomed with a caravan and public activity on Thursday after winning the NBA championship with the New York Knicks. Alvarado will arrive at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport at 12:00 p.m. and will be received by Governor Jenniffer González Colón. A caravan will then proceed from the airport to the T-Mobile District, where a public celebration will be held at Popular Plaza from 2:30 p.m.
The FBPUR stated that WAPA Televisión will provide special coverage of Alvarado's arrival and the planned activities. Alvarado and the Knicks won the Larry O'Brien trophy on June 13 by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in the fifth game of the NBA Finals. FBPUR President Yum Ramos expressed that Alvarado represents the talent, discipline, and pride of Puerto Rico, and that this championship is a achievement to be celebrated by the people.
Carlos Arroyo, general manager of the National Team, highlighted Alvarado's impact on and off the court, stating that he has become an inspiration for the youth and an ambassador of Puerto Rico in the international sports scene.
