The Overseas Press Club (OPC) and Google News Initiative have partnered to offer a training program in artificial intelligence for journalists, photojournalists, editors, journalism students, and media producers in Puerto Rico. The program begins on June 25 with a 90-minute virtual workshop on Google's AI tools for journalists, led by Mago Torres, a Mexican investigative journalist and trainer.
Torres has worked on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Panama Papers investigation and has collaborated with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and other organizations. The workshop will cover content creation, research, data verification, and fact-checking using AI.
The program has two phases, with the first phase being the June workshop and the second phase being a three-session intensive program for 25 selected journalists in July, which will cover practical content generation with AI, multimedia narrative, and new audiences. The program aims to provide Puerto Rican journalists with the skills to use AI in a transparent and ethical manner to enhance their investigative journalism.
