The Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) sanctioned the Mets de Guaynabo on Thursday for violating the Collective Contractual Cap and Luxury Tax regulations during the previous season. As a result, Guaynabo will pay a $50,000 fine, cannot use their three reinforcements in the next three games, and will lose all their turns in the 2027 New Entry Draft. The punishment took effect immediately, and the Mets faced the Vaqueros de Bayamón without their imported players.
The team has three games left in the regular season, including the one against Bayamón. The Mets were in fifth place in Conference A with a 14-17 record and 2.5 games behind the fourth and last qualifying spot. The sanction was issued less than 24 hours after Primera Hora reported that the BSN's tournament director, Ricardo Carrillo, had been informed by Guaynabo that they had withdrawn their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) in Lausana, Switzerland, in an attempt to demonstrate that they did not violate the regulations.
However, Carrillo decided not to apply the suspension until the TAS issued a resolution on the case.
