Friends and colleagues of former Venezuelan diplomat María Clemencia López Ramírez and her Puerto Rican husband, José Ignacio Jiménez, have reported the couple missing after two earthquakes hit La Guaira, Venezuela. The couple, who split their time between La Guaira and Old San Juan, was officially reported missing, according to public relations specialist Rosalía Ortiz Luquis.
The Puerto Rico Department of State said it has no information on the couple's status and will verify with agencies in Venezuela and the US. Ortiz Luquis and historian Rafael Anglada López expressed their concern and hope for the couple's safe return on social media.
López Ramírez was recently announced as a collaborator with the Asociación para la Defensa del Borrico (ADEBO), an ecological reserve in Spain, in May. The couple has ties to both Venezuela and Puerto Rico, with Jiménez being an independentist and bolivariano, and López Ramírez being a diplomat and antillanista.
