Minor Charged in Yauco Jewelry Store Robbery

A 17-year-old from Cabo Rojo has been charged with multiple offenses for allegedly participating in the robbery of Joyería La Mia in Yauco on June 26. According to the police report, the minor, along with three others, broke into the store by smashing a glass window and made off with approximately $3,000 worth of merchandise. The group, who were reportedly wearing black clothing and gloves, also damaged several display cases before fleeing in a gray Mitsubishi Mirage.

The police were able to identify the minor after releasing security footage to the media, which led to tips from citizens. The case was presented to Judge Carlia N. Soto Padua, who found probable cause for all charges and ordered the minor to be sent to the Centro de Tratamiento Social in Ponce.

A status hearing is scheduled for June 29. The minor faces charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated illegal appropriation, and property damage.
