The Mario 'Quijote' Morales coliseum in Puerto Rico was converted into a collection center on Sunday to gather supplies for Venezuelan earthquake victims. The initiative, led by the Puerto Rico government, aims to help the South American country recover from two strong earthquakes that have left 1,430 people dead. Christian Robles, the person in charge of the collection center, stated that they will be collecting items until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday and from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Multiple vehicles arrived at the center, including one from the Chong family, Venezuelan residents of Puerto Rico, who donated a large amount of food. The collected items were sorted and examined by volunteers, including paper towels, cereals, and sausages. Luis Martínez, a resident of San Juan, donated items, saying 'we are all brothers' and that he donated automatically.
Yineth Mora, a Venezuelan volunteer at the center, expressed gratitude for the immense help received, stating that 'the Puerto Rican people have been like brothers'. Mora's family is safe after the disaster, although a cousin had a close call in one of the affected cities.
