Driver Dies After Collision with Garbage Truck in Bayamón

A 61-year-old driver died in a collision with a garbage truck in Bayamón early Monday morning, according to the Police. The incident occurred at 4:09 a.m. on PR-29, kilometer 1.1. The driver of the Honda Accord was traveling in the same direction as the garbage truck when the truck changed lanes and struck the car.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. The garbage truck driver had no alcohol in his system. Lieutenant Rodolfo León of the Traffic Bureau explained that the investigation is ongoing to determine negligence in the case.

Agent Jonathan Díaz of the Bayamón Highway Patrol Division is leading the investigation along with the on-duty prosecutor. As of Sunday, the Police had reported 121 traffic accident deaths, 14 fewer than the 136 reported at the same time in 2025.
