A 61-year-old driver, Gamalier Fuentes Figueroa, died after his vehicle was struck by a garbage truck in Bayamón during the early morning hours of Monday. The accident occurred at 4:09 a.m. on PR-29, kilometer 1.1, and was reported to the 911 emergency system.
Upon arrival, police found two vehicles involved in the accident: a garbage truck that had collided with a 2018 white Honda Accord driven by Fuentes Figueroa. The driver of the Accord was taken to the Centro Médico de Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, where he was pronounced dead.
The truck driver tested negative for alcohol. The investigation is being led by Agent Jonathan Díaz of the Bayamón Highway Patrol Division, along with Prosecutor Alberto Cruz.
