Governor Jenniffer González Colón signed the Puerto Rico government's budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, exercising her constitutional authority to issue line-item vetoes to reduce or eliminate several appropriations included by the Legislative Assembly. The approved budget amounts to $13,174,703,000, slightly less than the $13,180,532,000 originally proposed by the Executive and later modified by the Legislative Assembly.
González Colón stated that the budget reflects a public policy focused on fiscal prudence, government efficiency, savings, and responsible use of public funds. The budget increases funding for several agencies, while reducing or eliminating others through line-item vetoes.
The governor eliminated certain appropriations entirely, citing the need to use resources responsibly and direct them towards essential services for the people of Puerto Rico.
