DACO Imposes Fines on Car Dealerships in Metropolitan Area

Updated Jun 30, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) imposed fines on four car dealerships in the metropolitan area for violating consumer protection regulations. The dealerships, including Triangle Toyota, Genesis, Ebenezer Auto, and Pita Auto Sales, were found to have issues such as selling vehicles without visible prices, having mechanics with expired licenses, and improper labeling.

DACO Secretary Hiram Torres Montalvo explained that the fines, which could be up to $10,000 each, were imposed after an inspection of 12 dealerships in the area. The inspection was part of an ongoing operation that will continue in other regions of the island.

Torres Montalvo noted that the dealerships were also informed about a recent order allowing them to replace printed copies of the vehicle warranty regulation with a QR code that provides electronic access to the information. The DACO did not verify complaints related to warranty issues, deceptive advertising, or other consumer concerns during this operation.
