Vico Ortiz is set to perform in the world premiere of the Spanish-language version of 'Viene, viene el Drag King', a one-person show, from July 2 to 5 at the Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce. The show is an adaptation of 'The Rise of a King', which tells the story of Ortiz's childhood in Puerto Rico, their relationship with their parents, Gerardo Ortiz and Evelyn Rosario, and their journey of self-discovery through transformation.
Ortiz, who identifies as a non-binary artist, shared their excitement about performing in their native language and connecting with the local audience. The show will be part of the True Colors Fest, a theater festival celebrating the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community in the performing arts.
Ortiz will be joined by friends from the local 'burlesque' and 'drag kings' scene, and expressed their enthusiasm for reclaiming space in the theater and showcasing their art.
