Public Employees to Have July 3 and 24 Off Without Charge to Vacations

Updated Jul 2, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

Governor Jenniffer González announced on Thursday that public employees will have July 3 and 24 off, in commemoration of US Independence Day and Puerto Rico's Constitution Day, respectively, without charge to their vacations or any other license. The governor made the announcement before concluding a press conference in Maricao, where she was delivering property titles.

This decision comes after controversy in March when González granted public employees the entire Holy Week off, charged to their vacation leave, and La Fortaleza later clarified that using vacation days for that period was optional. Additionally, González urged seniors to claim $400 bonuses from the Department of Hacienda, available to individuals 65 or older, which can be requested through the SURI platform from July 2 to October.

She also mentioned that a $300 bonus for government pensioners is available through SURI. Informational sessions will be held in July to guide applicants, including a fair in Bayamón on Friday at the Pepín Cestero court.
