From Academia to Communities: Vivian Neptune Returns to Her Roots

Updated Jul 5, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

Vivian Neptune Rivera, former dean of the University of Puerto Rico's (UPR) Law School, has a long-standing connection to community efforts, which began before she was born. Her paternal great-grandmother, Clotilde Rivera, and grandmothers, including Gloria Torres, established a traditional Puerto Rican food establishment in Fajardo to support her father, Reginald Neptune Torres, in his studies to become the town's doctor.

He would later return to care for his neighbors and teach his daughter the importance of community care. Vivian Neptune Rivera is now returning to her roots, emphasizing the need to renew leadership.
