José Iván Carmona Osorio faces criminal charges for allegedly attacking a woman with a hammer in Fajardo's Residencial Vevé Calzada. The incident occurred on Friday at 2:00 a.m. and left the woman with severe head injuries. The victim's 15-year-old son was present at the scene.
Secretary of Justice Lourdes L. Gómez Torres condemned the act, stating it exposed a minor to a traumatic event. Prosecutors Clarimar Marie Álvarez Carrasquillo and Dairene Santo Domingo Rivera presented charges of attempted first-degree murder, possession and use of a bladed weapon, and child abuse.
Judge Rebecca Vera Ríos set a bail of $800,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for July 14. The investigation was led by Agent Julio Prado García of the Puerto Rico Police's Criminal Investigations Corps.
