Updated Jul 6, 2026 · via Primera Hora

Superintendent of Police Joseph González Falcón expressed surprise at the resignation of federal prosecutor W. Stephen Muldrow, who announced his departure from the position effective July 7 after over 37 years of service in the US Department of Justice.

González Falcón, who worked with Muldrow as director of the FBI, described him as a professional and a friend of great integrity, and said he was informed of the resignation through a news alert. Muldrow was nominated by President Donald Trump in 2019 and remained in the position during the administration of President Joe Biden.

González Falcón stated that he does not know the reasons for Muldrow's resignation, but expressed confidence that the personnel will continue to work towards ensuring the safety of Puerto Rico's streets. The US Department of Justice may be considering nominating former prosecutor and current immigration judge in Florida, Julia Díaz-Rex, to the position.
