The Institute of Forensic Sciences (ICF) announced it has completed DNA analysis related to the case of nurse Jennifer Torres Castro, 36, whose body was found June 24 at her home in the Río Cañas neighborhood of Caguas. ICF spokesperson Betsy Rivera said the report with results is now available to prosecutors and investigators but remains confidential due to the ongoing probe. The autopsy report was completed August 4 and delivered to prosecutor Lisa Morales.
Torres Castro, a mother of two, reportedly appeared to have been asphyxiated. Suspect Carlos Manuel Estéfano Pino, 67, had bite-mark samples taken for comparison with marks found on the body. He was wanted under a parole board arrest warrant after his parole officer lost contact with him June 1, and by June 25 an agent reported he was being sought in connection with the case.
Estéfano Pino remains jailed. His home was searched and his wine-colored Toyota RAV4, where he was sleeping when arrested by Correction Department Joint Forces near the Puerto Rico Premium Outlets in Barceloneta, was seized for forensic analysis. He had been granted supervised parole on March 21, 2018, after being convicted of murdering a woman in Aguadilla in 1991.
